Hi there – so we have noticed recently that running your plugin on our sites will cause them to freeze and timeout whenever we try to access several items in the WP backend (like Appearance > Menus).

We are currently running WordPress 4.6, which our web host seems to think may be the issue. Are you aware of any compatibility issues with the newest version of WP? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated, as we’d love to keep using your plugin.

    thanks!

    Hi Matt,

The menu page has to initialize a set of JavaScript files and enqueue the font awesome stylesheet. Each menu item has a new option enabled on them allowing you to select an icon from. Each menu item has to have this field initialized, which is why the slow down. It shouldn’t be too tremendous, or cause any freezing up – but may take a second or two longer than normal.

I am going to look into this issue as another user had recently mentioned this to me. I will take a look at optimizing the functons/files to see if I can get things to speed up, and will alternatively build in an option to toggle off this setting.

I am currently traveling for work, but will get this sorted when I make it back from my trip.

I’ve gone ahead and added it to our “To Do” list, and listed it as an issue on Github so it doesn’t get overlooked:

    Thanks,
    Evan

Hey Evan – thanks for getting back so quickly! Yes this is definitely taking longer than a couple of seconds for multiple sites, so having the ability to turn off that feature sounds like the best idea if possible.

If you have any questions while you’re updating things just let me know and I’ll get back ASAP. Thanks again.

Hey Evan – it’s been a couple of weeks so thought I’d check in to see if you’ve made any progress on the update. Feel free to get back whenever you get a minute.

    Thanks again!

Hey Evan – welp the backend of our sites are borderline unusable and it’s pretty obvious you’re not going to fix this, so we’ve moved onto a different plugin. Thanks for the help, but this plugin no longer suits our needs.
